High School Playoffs Wednesday:
WPIAL Girls Volleyball 4A First Round:
–Butler defeated Latrobe 3-0. It was the Golden Tornado’s first playoff volleyball victory in nearly 10 years. Sophia Sacriponte and Maria Lucas led Butler with seven kills each. Julia Gibson added six kills. Tabitha Walker had 30 assists and 20 digs. The Golden Tornado will meet North Allegheny in the quarterfinal round Monday at 7:30pm.
District-9 Boys Soccer:
–Karns City defeated Elk County Catholic 6-0 last night in the District-9 1A semifinals. Nate Rondinelli netted a hat trick for the Gremlins, who will face Brockway at Clarion University next Thursday.
WPIAL Girls Soccer quarterfinals:
4A:
–Peters Township defeated Butler 2-1.
–Seneca Valley defeated Mt. Lebanon 6-1. Seneca Valley will meet Upper St. Clair in the semifinals Saturday
–Upper St. Clair defeated Pine-Richland 4-3 in overtime.
–Norwin defeated North Allegheny 2-1.
3A:
–Mars defeated Montour 3-0. Mars improved to 17-0 and will meet Hampton Saturday in the semifinals.
2A:
–South Park eliminated Freeport 6-1.
