A woman is being charged with vehicular homicide in a fatal bicycle crash that happened in the City of Butler back in September.
According to a criminal complaint, 27-year-old Susan Ekstrand of Butler is being charged in the accident that killed 76-year-old Dr. Henry Sinopoli in downtown Butler on the morning of September 8th.
Police say video from a nearby business shows that Ekstrand put on the brakes of her SUV at the intersection of West Brady and North Washington, but did not come to a complete stop.
Police also say at that same time Sinopoli entered the intersection on his bicycle driving the wrong direction on North Washington, which is a one way street.
Ekstrand also admitted to eating a piece of food while traveling through the intersection when she hit Sinopoli. Police did say that Ekstrand stayed on the scene to cooperate with police.
She faces homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter charges along with two other traffic related offenses.
