Police have charged a Mars woman for allegedly stealing over $10,000 from another woman posing as a psychic.
Police have charged 37-year-old Sophia Williams, also known as Victoria White, with theft by deception after she was paid $13,600 in three separate payments for telling the victim she could help her solve her issues.
According to charging documents, Williams first charged the victim $525 to complete an intuitive reading. After the reading, Williams told the victim to give her family heirlooms and $3,600 in cash. The victim was told the items would be kept safe and she would be given these items back.
Over the course of the next three months the victim would give an additional $10,000. After being asked for another $4,700 the victim demanded the money and heirlooms back. When she wasn’t given the money back she called the police. Williams told the victim that her ancestors had financial disagreements, which is why she had to hold onto the cash.
After being interviewed by police Williams called the victim and said she would give the money and possessions back if the victim did not pursue criminal charges.
Williams is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
