The two candidates running to serve as Pennsylvania’s Governor for the next four years met for their one debate Monday night in Hershey.
Republican challenger Scott Wagner got his one chance to debate incumbent Democratic Governor Tom Wolf and the two exchanged verbal jabs over civility in politics, special interest money, the death penalty, redistricting, education, the budget and more.
It was a somewhat unconventional debate format, constructed by moderator Alex Trebek – allowing for more back-and-forth between the candidates and more casual questions.
At one point, Wagner said, “When I’m elected governor, If I don’t do anything in four years, I pledge to you that I will change my name to Tom Wolf.”
The election is just a little more than a month away. A recent F&M College poll shows Wagner trailing Wolf by 22 points.
