State employees in state health care facilities and high-risk congregate care facilities have a little less than a month to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or be required to undergo weekly testing.
Governor Tom Wolf made the announcement Tuesday that will affect about 25,000 residents.
“On September 7th we’re going to start with the facilities that the Commonwealth owns that are congregate care facilities like the veterans homes and there are a bunch of others,” Wolf said.
All new external hires in those facilities will be required to be vaccinated before beginning employment.
A short time after that, all state employees who are vaccinated will receive a reward from the Wolf administration.
“Starting October 1st, all employees of the Commonwealth will be given an incentive to get a vaccine. We’ll give you a day off if you get the vaccine, and we’ll ask you to attest that you’ve gotten it,” Wolf said.
Pennsylvania ranks fifth in the nation for total doses administered with over 63% of adults 18 years of age and older fully vaccinated.
