
The Veterans of Foreign Wars honored a Seneca Valley student as the winner of an essay contest.
Lanie Koliscak, an eighth grader at Ryan Gloyer Middle School, won first place in the state for the Patriot’s Pen contest. She also placed 10th in the nation for her essay, “My Voice in America’s Democracy?”
In the contest, students write a 300–400-word essay on their views of American history and their personal experiences in today’s society.
Koliscak won a total of $6,600 between her state and national awards.
