The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team became the first since 2007 to repeat as the national champion, with a dominant defensive second half to pull away from Purdue 75-60 last night in Arizona. The Huskies won their 12th consecutive March Madness game over the past two seasons, and have won every one of those games by at least 13 points. It was the sixth title in UConn program history. They finished this season 37-3 overall. Associated Press Player of the Year Zach Edey netted 37 points to lead Purdue.
The South Carolina-Iowa women’s national championship game Sunday was the most-watched basketball game in five years. Nearly 19 million viewers tuned in to that game. The only sporting events in the United States to draw a bigger TV audience since 2019 have been football, the World Cup and the Olympics.
