A familiar face will be taking over as the new top administrator of fire departments in the City of Butler and Butler Township.
Current Butler Township Fire Marshal Chris Switala is looking forward to taking on the new position of Joint Fire Chief, “I think that this is a good position to facilitate through the shared fire chief agreement cooperation and a regional approach to the fire protection between the volunteers and the career department in the city that we can fill in the gaps and deliver the best protection with the resources that are available.”
Butler City Council approved Switala’s appointment by unanimous vote Tuesday night and Switala plans to give notice to the Township that he will step down from the Fire Marshal position. Switala will remain in the Joint Chief position until further notice.
The salary for this position is $80,000 per year paid by the city which will then be reimbursed a to-be-determined amount by the township for any time that Switala’s duties take him into Butler Township.
Councilman Mike Walter said, “When I heard that you were appointed to Fire Marshal in the township and I saw your list of qualifications, I thought to myself, boy, that’s the guy we want and I look forward to working with you.”
Before joining Butler Township in April, Switala was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department.
