The Seneca Valley School District is defending its handling of two sexual assault complaints brought against a male student by five girls that later reportedly turned out to be false.
The boy’s parents filed a federal lawsuit against the girls and the school district last week.
In a statement, Communications Director Linda Andreassi said the district followed all applicable laws and will vigorously defend itself throughout the process.
“We feel strongly the lawsuit being filed against the Seneca Valley School District is without merit,” according to the statement.
The suit seeks unspecified civil damages against the girls’ parents, the school district and the Butler County District Attorney’s office. The suit claims the girls made up the sexual assault claims, which led to an arrest, prosecution and incarceration of the boy despite him doing nothing wrong.
“The number-one priority of the Seneca Valley School District is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, parents and volunteers who enter our buildings. We have policies and procedures in place to protect individuals, and we communicate to all employees on these policies and work hard every day to provide a safe and caring learning environment for all,” the statement reads. “We still have not been officially served with the lawsuit against the School District, but we have been made aware of it through the media and other sources.”
