More than 5,000 Butler County residents are still without power Friday morning after strong storms rolled through the area last night.
The first severe thunderstorm hit the downtown Butler area shortly before 5:30 p.m. and was followed by dozens of calls to the Butler County 911 Center concerning trees and wires down.
As of 8 p.m. West Penn Power was reporting over 6,800 residents without power including many in the city of Butler, Butler Township, and Cranberry Township. CEC reported over 4,200 members in Butler County experiencing an outage at that time.
The storms damaged many trees in the city of Butler as well as in Butler parks. Cranberry Township sent out a notification that residents there should stay indoors in order to allow crews to more easily clean up the debris and restore power. Cranberry also closed a portion of Burke Road between Franklin and Serendity due to storm damage.
