State lawmakers are weighing their options after a hearing earlier this week regarding a bill that would repeal flexible liquor pricing.
Republican state representative Jesse Topper is sponsoring a bill to repeal the law, and he questions that flexible pricing is saving consumers money.
“We’re looking at the methodology we’re using to get these prices,” Topper said. “Is this putting some products at more of a competitive disadvantage than others? Exactly how much of the additional revenue we’re gaining is because of the market, or because of flexible pricing?”
The Liquor Control Board saw revenue increase to $191 million last fiscal year—that’s an 85 percent increase since 2016, when the bill was first adopted.
The PLCB contends the negotiating liquor prices benefits the consumer.
Governor Tom Wolf’s office says he hasn’t reviewed the language in the proposed repeal legislation.
