Hispanic Heritage Month is underway and Slippery Rock University has several new events planned to mark the occasion.
A Hispanic Fiesta will take place Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. at the North Country Brewing Company’s canning facility on Arrowhead Drive in Slippery Rock.
This event is free, open to the public, and will include food, music, drinks, and activities that showcase a variety of Hispanic and Latino cultures. Organizers will avoid food and garments used by many Americans to stereotypically represent Hispanic cultures, such as tacos and sombreros to give a more accurate picture.
Proceeds from this event will help support the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce scholarship fund which provides financial aid for Western Pennsylvania post-secondary school students of Hispanic descent.
Other activities sponsored by SRU’s Hispanic Latino Cultural Series Committee and the Student Organization for Latinos, Hispanics, and Allies include another Fiesta on September 25th, a presentation from a photographer, and a Day of the Dead Fashion Show.
