PIRATES:
The Cubs pounded the first-place Pirates’ bullpen in cruising to an 11-3 win Tuesday night at Wrigley Field in the first meeting of the season between the NL Central rivals.
The start of the game was delayed an hour by inclement weather.
Pirates starter Luis Ortiz , who allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in 5⅓ innings, kept the Cubs in check until the sixth. The Pirates’ bullpen struggled in the seventh, when the Cubs scored four runs to take control.
The Pirates will try again tonight at 8:05. Hear the game on WISR.
Boys lacrosse
For the third straight year, the Mars boys lacrosse team is headed to the state championship game Mars 11, Lampeter Strasburg 7.
Ian Coulter scored four times, including the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter, and Ryan Blake put the Fightin’ Planets ahead for good with 7:26 to go in a PIAA Class 2A semifinal victory over Lampeter Strasburg.
Mars, became the first WPIAL team to win a state lacrosse title last season.
The Fightin’ Planets will take on District 1 runner-up Marple Newtown in the title game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Penn State.

Last night the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Florida Panthers 9 to 3 to win their first Stanley Cup!
ODELL BECKHAM JR. MAKES RAVENS DEBUT AT MINICAMP:
Getting back on an NFL field for the first time in 16 months, Odell Beckham participated in a handful of team drills at Ravens mandatory minicamp Tuesday, which marked his anticipated return from injuring his left knee in Super Bowl LVI in February 2022.
NEVADA SENATE PASSES $380M BILL TO FUND NEW A’S STADIUM IN LAS VEGAS:
The Nevada state Senate passed a $380 million bill Tuesday to help fund a new stadium for the Oakland A’s in Las Vegas, the first step toward the expected move of the franchise.
After days of questioning from lawmakers about the wisdom of using public tax dollars to support a team owned by billionaire John Fisher, two amendments to the bill added Tuesday morning prompted a 13-8 vote in favor of the project.
