A special election will be held in order to determine who will replace outgoing state representative Tedd Nesbit in the 8th House District.
This action is necessary due to Nesbitt’s election to the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas last month.
According to a spokesman for the House Republican Caucus, within a few days of Nesbit stepping down to begin his new position next month, the Speaker of the PA state House will announce the plans.
Because the next primary election is at the end of April and more than 60 days after the vacating of the office, a separate special election date will likely be chosen.
A Grove City woman has announced her candidacy for Nesbit’s seat.
Veronica Cardello is seeking the Republican nomination following Nesbitt’s election to the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas.
It’s unclear though if Cardello will be running for the seat in the expected special election or in the regularly scheduled 2020 election as a call to her campaign was not returned.
She is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and is the current regional government affairs director for the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors.
