Slippery Rock University is recognizing a former faculty member who help create a new garden on campus.
Carolyn Rizza was a faculty member for 24 years before her retirement in 1999. After her time teaching, she and her husband Paul donated $1 million to the university’s equestrian center.
It helped build the center and fund its endowment to pay staff members.
A new memorial garden was dedicated earlier this year in her honor. It’s a 60-by-60 foot garden that includes green space, a stone walkway, and a water feature.
The equestrian center provides for activities and equine-assisted therapies for children and adults with disabilities.
