The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 last night. It was the opening game of a four-game series in St. Louis. The Pirates managed just four hits in the game, two of the hits were from Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, including a double. Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes allowed one unearned run on four hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out seven. His record fell to 10-3 overall, but he also lowered his ERA to 2.07 this season.
The two teams play again tonight at 7:45pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:20pm. Bailey Falter will start for the Bucs.
Monday’s game saw the debut of another Pirates prospect with the arrival of infielder/outfielder Nick Yorke.
The Pirates have promoted infielder/outfielder Nick Yorke to the major leagues Monday afternoon. Yorke went hitless in his debut last night, batting seventh. MLB Pipeline is rated the club’s No. 6 overall prospect. The Pirates acquired Yorke from the Boston Red Sox on July 29th in exchange for right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester. Yorke batted 355 in 40 games with Triple-A Indianapolis. Overall, Yorke was hitting .303 with 12 home runs, 72 RBIs in 123 minor league games this season.
