A number of candidates have come forward saying they want to be the one to fill State Representative Brian Ellis’ seat.
Both the Democratic and Republican parties of Butler County will be responsible for their own nomination processes to pick a candidate. The two candidates will then go up against each other in the special election, which has been set for this year’s primary election on May 21.
On the Democratic side, two candidates have come forward so far- Sam Doctor and Chris Kubiak. Doctor ran for the seat last year and lost to Ellis.
As for the republicans, Marci Mustello has announced her intention to run for the seat. She currently works for U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of Butler.
Gregory Walter of Fenelton is also seeking the republican nomination. He is a local businessman and veteran.
Ellis resigned from his 11th district house seat on Monday amid sexual assault allegations. He has not been charged.
