Ryan Blaney won the first-ever road course race at the new Charlotte “Roval” Sunday. Jimmie Johnson wrecked leader Martin Truex, Jr. on the final turn, allowing Blaney to cross the finish line first. The wreck eliminated Johnson from the post-season playoffs. Denny Hamlin, Erik Jones and Austin Dillon were also eliminated as the playoff field was reduced to 12 for the next three races. The drivers head to Dover this Sunday.
Richard Childress Racing announced over the weekend 27-year old X-finity Series driver Daniel Hemric will take over the #31 car in the Cup Series next season. Hemric is currently second overall on the X-finity Series standings, but has never won a race in the series over 60 starts. He does have 20 top-five finishes and finished in the top-10 in more than half his starts.
17-year old Hailee Deegan became the first woman to win a K&N Pro Series stock car race with her win Saturday at the Idaho Meridian Speedway. She has five top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 12 races in that series.
