The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team fell 69-67 to IUP in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament last night at SRU’s Morrow Field House. IUP moves on to face top-seeded Gannon in the quarterfinals Wednesday.
Jomo Goings and Day Waters led The Rock’s scoring effort with 20 points apiece with Goings also totaling five steals, three assists and one block. Waters added four rebounds and two steals to his fourth consecutive 20-point showing.
Playing in his final game at SRU, Maceo Austin finished just shy of a triple-double after turning in a 15-point, 12-rebound, seven-assist, three-steal, one-block performance.
Austin’s 15-point night pushed his career collegiate scoring between SRU and Duquesne total to 1,005 points. He is the third Rock athlete, along with Goings and Ike Herster, to have scored their 1,000th points this season.
