Retired Slippery Rock University head football coach George Mihalik has been announced as one of the names that will appear on the 2021 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. Mihalik is one of 40 coaches and 177 players to appear on the 2021 ballot. Voting results will be announced early next year.
Mihalik served as head coach at The Rock of 28 seasons after leading Slippery Rock to back-to-back state championships as a quarterback. He spent a total of 44 years with The Rock program.
Mihalik had winning seasons in 22 of his 28 years as head coach, finishing with a 197-111-4 overall record. His teams won eight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division titles and he was a six-time PSAC Coach of the Year. He led The Rock to six NCAA playoff appearances, including the final three years of his coaching career.
George was also a full-time professor at Slippery Rock nad has instrumental in developing the curriculum used for the safety management program. He was one of the few coaches in the nation to hold a doctorate degree – and teach while coaching.
