Motorists should be aware that a portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will temporarily close this weekend.
According to a news release from the Turnpike Commission, the closure will take place between the Beaver Valley Interchange (Exit 13) and the Cranberry Interchange (Exit 28) starting at 11:55 p.m. Saturday and continuing until 4 a.m. Sunday. Freedom Road will also close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Executive and Commonwealth Drives.
Crews will be removing the existing bridge structures for the new Freedom Road Bridge over the Turnpike at milepost 28. This is a PennDOT project but funded by the Turnpike with money from tolls.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured beginning at the New Castle Interchange while westbound Turnpike traffic will detour at Cranberry and reenter at New Castle. The backup date for this project if needed is next Saturday the 29th into next Sunday the 30th.
