A Pittsburgh man is facing felony charges after he allegedly broke into a home in Evans City and was shot by a man in self-defense.
Police say 49-year-old Mark Shearer Jr. forced his way into the home of his ex-wife and her boyfriend 300 block of West Main Street Saturday evening around 6:45 p.m.
According to the criminal complaint, Shearer had sent texts to his ex-wife threatening to shoot her new boyfriend. He then broke into a basement storm door that night and worked his way upstairs.
Shearer found the two inside a bedroom, and then took a gun and placed it near the head of the boyfriend saying he was going to kill him. That’s when the boyfriend grabbed his own gun and shot Shearer twice.
Shearer fled the room and eventually crawled onto the floor of the kitchen when police arrived.
He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital where he is expected to be released soon and then arraigned on two felony charges and a misdemeanor.
Police also say there was a younger person inside the home at the time who was uninjured.
