The Pittsburgh Pirates begin a nine-game road trip tonight in Milwaukee. Joe Musgrove (5-7, 3.31 ERA) will start for the Bucs. Wade Miley (2-2, 2.18 ERA) will start for the Brewers. Game time is 8:10pm.
The Altoona Curve were aided by an Alfredo Reyes grand-slam in the fourth inning to win their fifth game in a row, defeating Harrisburg 6-3 last night during Pro Wrestling Night at the Curve ballpark. The win kept the Curve a half game behind first-place Akron.
Altoona Curve first baseman Will Craig and third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes have been selected as season-ending Eastern League All-Stars. Craig is a first-round draft pick of the Pirates from 2016 out of Wake Forest. He currently leads the Eastern League with 97 RBI’s and is tied for fourth with 20 home runs. Hayes was a first-round pick of the Pirates in 2015 from a high school in Texas. He is in the Eastern League top-10 in batting average at .281 and has 30 doubles. For the season, Hayes has a .976 fielding percentage, which is the best in all of the minor leagues, and would rank the highest by a third baseman in the Eastern League since 1959. Baseball America named Hayes the league’s best third baseman last week. Both started the Eastern League All-Star game in July.
