The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded veteran starting pitcher Ivan Nova to the Chicago White Sox for a low-level minor league pitcher and international pool cash. The trade clears a pitcher who would have made $8.5 million next season.
The Pirates have come to a contract agreement with free agent right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles, pending a physical.
Former Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has signed a three-year contract worth $50 million to play for the Philadelphia Phillies. McCutchen was traded last offseason to the San Francisco Giants, before being traded to the New York Yankees.
The Toronto Blue Jays have released shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. The 34-year old did not play last season because of ankle surgery. He has not appeared in a major league game since July 2017. The five-time All-Star is oweed $38 million by the Blue Jays.
