The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Kansas City Royals 2-1 in 11-innings last night. Jameson Taillon did not figure in the decision, but allowed just four hits while striking out 11 over seven innings. Felipe Vazquez allowed the game-tying run in the ninth inning, for his fifth blown save of the season. Catcher Ryan Lavarnway drove in the pinch-hit game-winning run with a walk-off single in the 11th for the Pirates fourth win in a row. Colin Moran had given Taillon and the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning with a pinch-hit home run, his 10th of the season. He now has 53 RBI’s in his rookie season.
Pablo Reyes playing right field had two hits batting lead-off for the Pirates. He is now batting .435 after his September call-up.
The two teams complete their series tonight at PNC Park. Game time is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:40pm. Chris Archer will start for the Pirates. The Bucs are off tomorrow, then host Milwaukee for the final three games at home this season beginning Friday.
The Pirates are now 76-74 overall.
