The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-2 Sunday afternoon, and took three of four games in their series at Wrigley Field. Mitch Keller allowed two runs on just two hits over six innings to earn his fifth victory of the season. Three Pirate relievers closed the game with three scoreless innings. Andrew McCutchen and Nick Gonzales led the Bucs with two hits each. Gonzales drove in two runs.
The Pirates are off today and begin a six-game homestand Tuesday when they host the San Francisco Giants.
The Pirates had a chance to sweep their four-game series in Chicago, but fell 1-0 Saturday thanks in part to a controversial game-ending call when the Cubs scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Bailey Falter pitched into the eighth inning of that game. He did not allow a run on three hits.
In Friday’s game, rookie Paul Skenes did not allow a hit and struck out 11 over six innings in his second big league appearance.
