The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 Sunday to take two of three games from the Brewers in their series. Trevor Williams earned his 13th win of the season, allowing just two hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out seven. Felipe Vazquez earned his 34th save of the season, despite allowing back-to-back home runs to lead off the ninth inning. Corey Dickerson had two doubles and scored twice. He had three of the Pirates five hits in the game.
The Bucs have returned home and will host the Kansas City Royals tonight at 7:05pm. Joe Musgrove will go to the mound of the Pirates. It is their final home stand of the season, with Milwaukee coming to town for the weekend.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting today that Mars senior pitcher Will Bednar has decided to make a verbal committment to attend Mississippi State. Bednar backed out of an earlier committment to Ohio State. Bednar is one of the top pitchers in the region, with a fastball clocked at 95 miles per hour. He was 8-0 as a junior last year for the Planets, and helped lead them to the WPIAL championship game.
The Washington Wild Things will host Joliet tonight at 7:05pm in the deciding championship Game Five of the independent Frontier League.
