The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Diego Padres 7-1 last night at PNC Park. The Bucs had nine hits in the game, led by Henry Davis and Carlos Santana who had two hits each. Santana had a home run for the second straight night. Mitch Keller allowed one run over six innings to earn his ninth win of the season. He allowed four hits and struck out five, lowering his season ERA to 3.34.
The victory gives the Pirates their first series win since taking two of three from the New York Mets June 9th through 11th.
The Bucs and Padres complete their series this afternoon at 12:35pm. WISR will join the game following the noon news. Luis Ortiz will start for the Bucs today. Former Pirate Joe Musgrove will start for San Diego.
The Pirates have not swept a series since taking three games from St. Louis to begin the month.
The Pirates have placed third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes on the 10-day Injured List and promoted Jared Triolo from Triple-A Indianapolis. Triolo made his major league debut last night and earned his first big league hit and scored a run. Like Hayes, Triolo is a solid fielder, having won a Gold Glove in the minor leagues.
