The Pittsburgh Pirates opened their season with a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds Thursday. Oneil Cruz hit his first home run of the season. He drove in two runs and scored twice. Ji Hwan Bae had two hits, scored twice and stole two bases. Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller allowed four earned runs on six hits while pitching into the fifth inning. He struck out eight while walking four. David Bednar earned his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Bucs and Reds are off today, and continue their series Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Saturday’s game has a 4:10pm first-pitch. Sunday’s game has a 1:40pm game time.
