The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the defending world champion San Francisco Giants following a 5-2 victory Wednesday afternoon. Francisco Liriano allowed just one run over seven innings. He struck out six.
Jordy Mercer hit a home run for the second consecutive day. It was the Bucs first sweep in San Francisco since 2007. 
The Pirates have now won five games on the 10-game road trip. They have today off before beginning a weekend series in Atlanta.
