The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game series sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals with a 2-1 victory Sunday. The Pirates put four singles together to score their two runs in the first inning. Starting pitcher Rich Hill allowed the Cardinals just the one run while pitching into the seventh inning. Three relievers closed the game with 2-1/3rd scoreless innings. David Bednar earned his 13th save in 14 tries this season. He saved all three Pirate victories over the weekend.
The Bucs have now won five games in a row, but remain a half-game behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the N.L. Central after the Brewers swept their three-game weekend series with Cincinnati. They host the Oakland Athletics for three games beginning tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:40pm.
The Pirates 2021 top overall draft pick, catcher Henry Davis, was promoted from Double-A Altoona to Triple-A Indianapolis Sunday. Davis had batted .284 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI’s this season for the Curve.
