The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 last night, snapping a six-game losing streak. Rookie Jared Jones allowed one run, a solo home run, over six innings. He struck out seven.
Andrew McCutchen batted lead-off in last night’s game and opened the Pirates scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. He had three hits in the game. O’Neil Cruz batted seventh in the lineup and also added three hits. He drove in two runs.
The Pirates bullpen held the lead despite Aroldis Chapman getting only one out in the eighth inning while walking three. David Bednar closed the game in the ninth for his third save.
Last night’s game at PNC Park was the first of a four-game series with the Brewers. Game time tonight is 6:40pm. WISR pre-game is 6:15pm. Bailey Falter starts for the Pirates.
Last night’s game marked the fifth consecutive start that Jones had at least seven strikeouts, tying an MLB career beginning record.
The Brewers continue to lead the NL Central at 14-7, three games better the Pirates who are now 12-11.
