Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Endy Rodriguez will miss the entire 2024 season after being injured in a Dominican Winter League game a month ago. He will undergo Tommy John surgery. Rodriguez was acquired by the Pirates in the Joe Musgrove trade and appeared in 57 games last season. He was projected as the Pirates opening day catcher.
The Pirates have signed first baseman/designated hitter Rowdy Tellez to a one-year free agent contract. The deal is worth a reported $3.2 million with $800,000 in incentives. The left-handed hitter batted .215 with 13 home runs with Milwaukee last season. He hit 35 home runs the year before.
