The Pittsburgh Pirates shutout the Chicago Cubs 6-0 last night at Wrigley Field. Starting pitcher Chris Archer did not allow a run over his six innings of work. He gave up four hits and stuck out nine. Corey Dickerson had three hits for the Bucs, and has raised his average back up to .299 overall. Rookie Pablo Reyes hit his third home run since his September call-up and drove in three.
The two teams meet again tonight at 8:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 7:40pm. Ivan Nova will go to the mound for the Bucs seeking his 10th victory of the season.
The loss to the Pirates allowed Milwaukee to close to within a half-game of the Cubs in the National League Central. The Brewers defeated St. Louis 12-4 last night. The Cardinals have now fallen a half game behind Colorado in the race for the final N.L. Wild Card.
The make-up game between the Pirates and Florida Marlins that had been re-scheduled for next Monday has been officially cancelled.
