The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants 10-5 last night to open a four-game series. The Bucs smacked three home runs in the game, including back-to-back round-trippers from Elias Diaz and Josh Bell in the second inning. David Freese hit a three-run home run in the seventh. Ivan Nova pitched six innings for the victory. Adam Frazier had three hits for the second straight game.
The Bucs and Giants meet again tonight at 10:15pm. WISR pre-game is 9:50pm. Clay Holmes will make a spot start for the Pirates tonight.
The Pirates have won three games in a row and are now seven games behind the first-place Cubs, and four games back in the Wild Card chase.
The Altoona Curve scored seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings last night in a 9-7 victory over the Trenton Thunder. The Curve took two of three games in the series, and have closed to within three games of first-place Akron in the Eastern League Western Division. The Curve open a weekend series with the Erie SeaWolves tonight in Altoona.
The PONY League World Series opens tonight in Washington, PA. The first game with begin at 5:30pm.
