The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in 13-innings Wednesday afternoon. Catcher Joey Bart drove in Alexander Canario with the winning run in the bottom of the 13th after both teams scored a run in the 12th inning to break a scoreless game. The Pirates managed five hits overall, after being no-hit into through the game’s first six innings. Bart had two of the hits.
Mitch Keller pitched into the eighth inning of the game for the Bucs. He did not allow a run on four hits, walking one and striking out six.
The Pirates are off today, then open a three-game road trip in Cincinnati Friday night.
Following the game and its ending excitement – catcher Bart ripped open his Pirates uniform shirt and exclaimed “Chest Hair, Guts Out, Bucs Win, Baby C’mon!” Not quite “Raise the Jolly Roger”, but effective in clinching the series with the Cardinals!
