The Pittsburgh Pirates won both of their pre-season opening games over the weekend. The Bucs defeated the Minnesota Twins 5-1 Sunday after defeating the Baltimore Orioles 10-5 in their Grapefruit League opener Saturday. Outfielder Matt Gorski hit two home runs and drove in six in Saturday’s game. Mitch Keller pitched two scoreless innings Sunday. 18-year old outfielder Konnor Griffin had his first major league hit in the Sunday spring training game. Griffin was the Pirates first-round draft pick out of high school last year.
The Pirates visit the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater, Florida this afternoon. Paul Skenes is expected to make his spring training debut. (Although rain is expected in Clearwater today).
