Kyle Freeland and the Colorado bullpen combined on a two-hitter to help the Rockies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-0, on Monday night
Joe Musgrove retired the first 12 batters he faced before allowing a single to Nolan Arenado on the first pitch of the fifth. The right-hander scattered four hits over seven innings and allowed two runs, one earned.
The Pirates have lost three in a row and are in Colorado tonight.
Neal Huntington made a deal Monday to add infield depth when he acquired shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria from the Tampa Bay Rays for right-handed relief pitcher Matt Seelinger. The Pirates also received cash considerations in the deal, but they also must delete a player from the 25-man roster or place someone on the disabled list.
It appears to be a trade of a rental player, however. Hechavarria is not signed for the 2019 season, but the Pirates will be on the hook for 31 percent of his $5.9 million salary this year (approximately $1,829,000).
