The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the Washington Nationals 5-1 Tuesday night at PNC Park. The Pirates managed just two hits off Nationals starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson over the first five innings. Pirates starter Joe Musgrove returned from the disabled list and allowed two runs on a fifth inning home run and took the loss. Musgrove allowed five hits over five innings, walking one and striking out nine. Reliever Steven Brault allowed three runs in 1/3rd of an inning.
The Bucs and Nationals completed their three-game series Wednesday afternoon with a 2-0 Pirates victory. Trevor Williams and four relievers combined to make Starling Marte’s two-run homer in the 3rd inning stand up as enough to win.
The game was televised on Facebook as part of Major League Baseball’s partnership with the social media network. This is one of 25 the pair will feature together this season.
The Pirates will host Milwaukee for a five-game series beginning Thursday night. The series will feature a doubleheader Saturday.
