The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 5-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals last night. The Bucs stranded 12 runners on base in the game. Starling Marte had a three hit night, but never scored.
Pirates starter Joe Musgrove began the game with 21 consecutive strikes, the most ever for a major league pitcher since strikes began to be tracked in 1988. But in the end, Musgrove allowed five runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out seven. His record fell to 5-8.
The Pirates move on to Atlanta, who lead the Philadelphia Phillies by 3-1/2 games in the National League East. First pitch tonight is 7:35pm.

Former Pirate outfielder Andrew McCutchen has been traded to the New York Yankees. The San Francisco Giants received an infielder and minor league player for the former Pirate All-Star. McCutchen is batting .255 this season with 15 home runs, 55 RBI’s and 13 stolen bases.
The Altoona Curve avoided a sweep by the Trenton Thunder with a 5-1 victory last night. The Curve visit the Bowie Bay Sox for their final four regular-season games this weekend. Bowie defeated Akron 4-0 last night to give the Curve a one-game lead in the Eastern League Western Division heading into the final weekend.
