The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 Labor Day Monday night. Ke’Bryan Hayes, Andrew McCutchen and Jack Suwinski led the Bucs with two hits each. Hayes and Suwinski hit home runs.
Despite allowing two runs in the second inning to the Brewers, Pirates starting pitcher Johan Oviedo went six innings, allowing just the two runs on five hits. The Pirates had six extra-base hits off Milwaukee starter Corbin Burnes, was the most the 2021 N.L. Cy Young Award winner has allowed in a game in his career.
Since losing three of four games to the Chicago Cubs, the Bucs have gone 6-1.
The Pirates host the Brewers again tonight at 6:35pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:10pm.
Andrew McCutchen left last night’s game late with tightness in his left Achilles.
