The Pittsburgh Pirates offensive struggles continued in a 3-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants Sunday evening.
Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones allowed three earned runs on five hits over five innings. All three Giants runs came in the third inning when Jones allowed back-to-back home runs. He allowed a total of six hits and struck out three. The strikeout total was the lowest in six starts to begin his career, stopping a streak of seven or more strikeouts. Rowdy Tellez had two of the Pirates five hits, both hits were doubles. They were the first extra-base hits for Tellez in almost a month.
The Pirates continue their six-game road trip tonight in Oakland. First pitch is 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:15pm. Bailey Falter starts for the Bucs tonight.
The Pirates have fallen to 14-15 overall, and are now just a half-game ahead of St. Louis for last place in the National League Central.
