The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Colorado Avalance 6-3 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Patric Hornqvist scored a hat trick to lead the Penguins. He scored three times in 2:47 for the fastest natural hat trick in Penguins history. Jake Guentzel, Evgeni Malkin and Derick Brassard scored the other Penguins goals.
Casey DeSmith stopped 42 of 45 shots on goal for the Pens.
The Pens host the New York Islanders Thursday. Their next three games after that are on the road.
The NHL Board of Governors approved Seattle’s expansion application which will bring a 32nd franchise to the league. The Seattle team will debut in the 2021-22 season. The NHL will realign two divisions, with Seattle playing in the West. The Arizona Coyotes will move to the Central Division.
