The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Rangers 5-2 last night at Madison Square Garden. The Pens fell behind 2-0 in the first period before mounting a comeback with three goals in the second period. Rookie Teddy Blueger scored twice. Matt Cullen and Justin Schultz also scored. Goaltender Matt Murray stopped 33 of 35 shots.
Kris Letang missed last night’s game with an “upper-body injury” – and is day-to-day.
The Pens have five regular-season games remaining. They have moved to within a point of first-place Washington, and are tied again with the New York Islanders. The Pens are idle until they host Nashville Friday.
Today’s schedule will be interesting to watch and will impact the Metropolitan Division.
–The Islanders host Columbus. The Blue Jackets trail Montreal by two points for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
–Washington will host Carolina. The Hurricanes trail the Pens by four points, but have two extra games remaining.
–Montreal is hosting Florida.
