The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 6-2 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Phil Kessel and Kris Letang scored two goals each for the Pens. Sidney Crosby had a goal and three points. Goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 19 of 21 shots.
The Pens lost winger Patric Hornqvist to an injury during the game.
The victory moved the Penguins into a tie with the Islanders and New York Rangers for third place in the Metropolitan Division. All are six points behind first-place Washington. Last night’s game was the first of 10 games for the team over the next 17 days.
The Pens will begin a three-game road trip in Ottawa Saturday night. Face-off is 7pm. WISR pre-game is 6:30pm.
Former Penguins winger Daniel Sprong wasted little time scoring his first goal of the season Wednesday. He scored in the opening six minutes of his first game with Anaheim. The Pens traded Sprong for defenseman Marcus Pettersson earlier this week.
