The Pittsburgh Penguins snapped the NHL-record road game winning streak of the Colorado Avalanche with a 4-0 victory at PPG Paints Arena last night. Reilly Smith scored twice for the Pens, and Tristan Jarry stopped all 31 shots he faced from Colorado for his 15th career shutout. Smith scored both of his goals in the first period. Lars Eller scored his first goal in a Penguins uniform in the second period. Sidney Crosby scored his fourth goal of the season in the third.
The Avalanche entered last night’s game not only with the road game winning streak, but were 6-0 and had outscored opponents 27-12 to begin this season. The Pens also held Colorado 0-for-5 on power plays as they improved to 3-4.
The Penguins host the Ottawa Senators Saturday for a 7pm face-off. WISR pre-game begins at 6:30pm.
