The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Florida Panthers 5-4 in overtime last night, for their fourth victory in a row. Bryan Rust scored the game-winning goal for the Penguins. It was the 27th game-winning goal of Rust’s career, tying him with Kevin Stevens for 9th in team history. Rookie defenseman Owen Pickering scored his first NHL goal.
The Pens had built a 4-1 lead early in the third period, before the Panthers rallied to tie the game and force the extra period.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 37 of 41 shots from Florida. The Penguins won the game despite managing just 16 shots. The win moved the Pens out of last place in the Metropolitan Division by one point and within one game of .500 for the season.
The Pens have back-to-back games this weekend. They will visit the New York Rangers Friday, then return home to host Toronto Saturday.
