The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Rickard Rakell scored twice for the Pens and Casey DeSmith stopped 31 of 33 shots in goal.
Prior to the game, Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was honored for playing in his 1,000th career game in the NHL.
The Pens moved back in front of the Florida Panthers by one point in the battle for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card. Both teams have five games remaining in the regular season.
The Pens lost to the Boston Bruins 4-3 on Saturday. The Penguins visit the New Jersey Devils Tuesday.
The New York Islanders lost both of their games over the weekend. They fell 5-0 to Tampa Bay Saturday, then lost 2-1 to Carolina Sunday. The Penguins are one point behind New York, and the Islanders have four games remaining.
With Sunday’s loss to the Pens, the Flyers were officially eliminated from the playoffs.
