The Pittsburgh Penguins returned from the NHL All-Star break with a 2-1 victory in overtime over the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. Kris Letang scored the game-winner in the overtime after Bryan Rust scored the game-tying goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Casey DeSmith stopped 41 of 42 shots, including 38 in regulation.
The Pens begin a three-game west coast road trip in Anaheim, California Friday night.
