The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-3 last night at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins scored the first three goals of the game in the opening period, and took a 5-1 lead early in the second period on a Sidney Crosby power play goal. Crosby ended with a three-point night. The Penguins captain as now passed Hall of Famer Joe Sakic for ninth place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.
Rickard Rakell scored his team-leading 21st goal of the season during the game. Bryan Rust had a goal and two assists as the team played without an injured Evgeni Malkin. Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 40 of 43 shots in net.
The Pens not only snapped a four-game losing streak, but defeated Edmonton for the first time since December of 2019.
The Pens play back-to-back games this weekend. They host Ottawa Saturday afternoon. Face-off is 4pm. (No WISR coverage due to the Steelers playoff game).
